Raymond T.Mercadel Sr. "PawPaw" passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 87 on November 3, 2021 at his residence with family by his side in his hometown New Orleans, LA; just a month shy of a year since the passing of his twin Ramona Brisco. Raymond was a retired United States Air Force veteran of 23 ½ years who served during the Vietnam War. After retirement, Raymond continued to serve 10 years at the Michoud NASA assembly facility as supervisor over the assembly of the exterior fuel tank for the space shuttles. After many crashes of the Phamton 4 jet used in Vietnam, he invented a strut used to stabilize the wings of the jet which resulted in less crashes. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents Marcel Mercadel and Zelia Jones Mercadel and step mother Florence Mercadel Magee; sons Steven, Eric, Ronald, Roland , daughter Trina, grandson Steven; as well as his siblings James, George, Harold, Anthony, Bernell, Leo, Sr., Louise, Desiria, Ramona, Louise, Huey, Armand, Gerald, Lester, Norman, and Doreen.Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Yvonne Robiho Mercadel; sons Raymond Jr., Merlin, and Arnold; grandchildren Shontel, Ryan, Arnold (AJ), Aaron, Ariane, Wendy, Ricky, Domonique, and great-grandchildren Corey, Shane, Carly, Trent, Aiden, Ava, Ashton, Cholie, Autumn, Aubree, April, Darrieal, Irving, Ricky Jr., London, Domonic, Domonae, and Loyalty; as well as his siblings Florence, Ronald, Henry, Allen, Gloria, and Charmaine; 3 God-children Melvin Robiho, Jr., Albert Brisco, Jr. and Connie Mercadel. Raymond will be remembered most for his cooking calas, gardening, decorating his house for each holiday and celebrating holidays with his family (passing out $5 bills for birthdays and Christmas).
Relatives and friends of the family also are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi/Epiphany Church, 2022 St. Bernard Ave. New Orleans, La 70116 on Friday November 12, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Due to Covid-19, Please follow social distancing guidelines and a mask is required to attend services.
